CrowdStrike Windows Sensor is the lightweight endpoint agent for the CrowdStrike Falcon platform on Microsoft Windows. It provides cloud-delivered endpoint protection, detection, and response (EDR) and next‑generation antivirus by continuously monitoring process, file, registry, and network activity and streaming security telemetry to the Falcon cloud for real-time analytics. The sensor enforces prevention policies, blocks malicious behavior (including ransomware and exploit techniques), and supports threat hunting and incident response through centralized management in the Falcon console. Depending on licensed modules, it can also enable device control, firewall management, vulnerability visibility, and IT hygiene. Designed for low system impact, the sensor updates automatically, supports proxy use and offline operation with secure buffering, encrypts all communications, and includes tamper protection. It runs as a background service on Windows desktops and servers and is typically deployed at scale to improve visibility, reduce dwell time, and enable rapid containment actions such as quarantine, process termination, and network isolation.
